The Configurator Series: Mclaren 765LT

Updated: Jan 31, 2021

The Configurator Series is all about building dream specs, wish list, bucket list cars. The type of cars that in the 90s would be poster cars and in the 21st century, screensaver cars.

For that you need astoundingly good looking cars and the new edition in this week's series well and truly fits the bill. The Mclaren 765LT.

The 765LT is the new edition in Mclaren's Super Series range. The new long tail release is the successor to the 675LT and the lighter, more powerful, track focused version of the 720s. 765PS (755 bhp) and 800 Nm of torque keeps in line with the madness of today's of super/hyper cars and bares the question of how far can the performance be pushed.

There is a very solid selection of colour options for the 765LT, which is natural given its foundation is based on the 720s. Initially I was stuck between choosing Smoked White, Silicia White and Nardo Orange. Mansory's 720s "First Edition" played heavily on my mind as both "White" paint options had a fantastic light silver shade to them and reminded me of the brilliant modification the tuner did on the 720s. In the end I chose Nardo Orange. A bold colour and one which perfectly suits the 765LT, allowing the exterior carbon options to really stand out. We'll touch on those later.

I opted for the 10 spoke Ultra Lightweight Forged wheels in Gloss Black to give that dark contrast to the Nardo Orange paintwork and to match all of the Carbon exterior options selected. The blacked out wheels are a must if you are picking colours where black is a defined contrast to the paintwork.

Building the 765LT meant that spec'ing as much Carbon as possible was a given and it is fair to say that it works perfectly with the paintwork. Choosing 3 Exterior Carbon Fibre packs covers the front lip, all air intakes around the exterior, side skirts, rear diffuser and roof. The added Carbon highlights how spot on the paintwork is. It pops and shines, even on the Configurator, let alone in the flesh and for a Lambo fan boy like myself, this is a real neck breaking head turner.

The Stealth Pack takes the black exterior look to another level as the oil cap, rear spoiler and exhaust tips are finished in black, helping to match the Carbon spec'd around the body.

The roof and rear spoiler look much better in Carbon instead of the paintwork selected and help to break up the consistency of the paint colour, without going too far down the two tone route.

From an interior view, I have always gone for simple, uncomplicated designs and there is no change here with the new LT.

The interior is spec'd with Carbon Fibre racing seats, the steering wheel finished with Carbon black Alcantara and MSO extended Shift paddles.

All in all, the new 765LT is a beautifully aggressive car and can be spec'd to look like a real dream. The spec that I have gone for is amazing and no doubt, with the amount of Carbon chosen, will be eye wateringly expensive.

It's actually quite hard to detail how good looking this car actually is and Mclaren have done a wonderful job in using subtle enhancements, like the rear spoiler and new exhaust exits, to transform the car.

Mclaren, I salute you...
