The Configurator Series: Lotus Evija

In this week's edition of The Configurator Series we have gone electric!

At The Crbn Fbre Comp we are staunch defenders of the petrol engine, the emotions you get from the noise of a wonderful V8/V10/V12 and the excitement generated in pushing down the road and experiencing the power of a gas guzzling supercar.

But times are changing, electric cars are part of the future and we are also appreciative of great looking designs and technology that pushes the boundaries in the automotive world.

Lotus have recently released their newest supercar so we decided to have a look and have a play around on their configurator.

Today's edition is on the Lotus Evija.

Lotus' entry into the electric supercar game is needless to say a dramatic one. From the looks of the car to the powertrain, the Evija is definitely set to stand out and make its mark on the automotive world.

By power ranking, the Evija is currently the most powerful production car, full stop, we could end it there. 1970hp and 1700Nm of torque is in a word, ridiculous. Each wheel holds its own electric motor with a power output of 493hp, yes the equivalent of a new M4, that power the car and combines to produce the monstrous horse power this car generates.

From the looks department the Evija is well placed amongst its pears. Sleak but striking, designed for aerodynamics but also very minimalist in appearance.

The Evija looks just as you would imagine it would sound, if there was an engine...

The Evija configurator is similarly limited in its options set up. There are only 3 sections to work through and not a huge amount of changes to make. However with the Evija set to be released to the public next year, this may change.

There are a number of livery and preselected paint options or spec combinations already created in the configurator for you to choose from and highlighted by the fact that there isn't an area to choose interior trim options, there may be far more to come in the Evija's configurator make up.

The paint option I went for was the Liquid Gold with Liquid Gold pinstripe around the front lip, side skirts and extending through to the rear of the car to the rear diffuser.

As you will notice with the Evija, there are no wing mirrors, being futuristic, the wing mirrors are cameras on the car with the view displayed inside the car via screens.

The wheels are 12 spoke gloss black alloys, 21" at the rear, 20" at the front and work perfectly with the Liquid Gold paintwork. There is a gold design for the wheels but that is too much with the colour already chosen. The simple box rectangle design for the spokes isn't too crazy but the designs for the aero wheel options are definitely something to look out for when the car hits the road, they looks like spinning saucers!

Moving to the rear of the car, you can see the Liquid Gold pinstripe around the rear diffuser lining up from the side skirts and starting at the front lip. The Evija has become unique for its choice of rear lights and the hollow space running through to the vents on the side of the car, maximises both air flow and downforce on the car.

The Evija needless to say is a beautiful and futuristic looking supercar, the design is fairly simple but still head turning and with the absolutely crazy powertrain, 2021 couldn't come any quicker.

Let us know your thoughts on Lotus' most recent release and the spec that we have chosen. What would you have done differently?
