The Maserati MC20 is the newest supercar release from the Italian manufacturer as it aims to build on the foundation of success brought by the Ghibli and Levante.
Maserati is notorious for leaving us wanted, the Granturismo lasted for over a decade without a new release and fans have been screaming for a supercar for as long as you can remember.
Maserati have answered and the MC20 is a great introduction to a period where Maserati will bring a wave of new releases.
Aesthetically, the MC20 is exactly what you would expect from Maserati, beautiful, luxurious and elegant but a design house in New York, 7designhouse, have put their take on the MC20, creating a kit that with subtle adjustments, makes this MC20 look like a performance version yet to be released.
The MC20 can be spec'd with a carbon exterior pack, adding a front splitter, rear diffuser, door, wing sills, bonnet and exhaust tips all in carbon. The design operates as a slight extension to the lines of the MC20, conforming to the design language and the lines within the Maser's shape.
The carbon kit from 7designhouse attempts to go a step further....
The Aria Carbon for MC20 kicks off with a front lip, elongated compared with the front splitter in the exterior carbon pack from Maserati, pushing the lines further beyond the front grille and introducing a raised element to the corners of the front lip. The carbon weave is extremely distinctive and works in sync with the grille pattern that the MC20 sports.
The side skirts remain in carbon with a similar design to Maserati's, the wheels however have taken a complete change. Diverging from the birdcage and miron designs, the Aria Carbon for MC20 has plumped for a more simple multi spoke set up for the wheels with a concave effect towards the centre lock. All black and in tune with the carbon dotted around the car.
One of the stand out additions to the carbon kit is, no doubt, the rear wing. The form is seamless with the design language created by Maserati with the biggest compliment being, it looks like a stock wing. The MC20 is naturally elegant by intention but the rear wing introduces an appeal normally associated with thoroughbred supercars, transforming the rear into what I would expect from a Stradale or Trofeo version.
The rear diffuser has also taken a redesign, the MC20 provides what you would expect from a supercar but in a slightly understated manner. 7designhouse have now made the rear diffuser far more visible. The slats elongate the further out they go, a reverse of the stock diffuser, making the now enlarged diffuser more aggressive and more in tune with a performance version. With the diffuser dipped in carbon and more visible, the mid mounted exhaust tips almost come out from hiding, creating a perfect rear end.... (excuse the language!)
The roof now formed from different shades of the same material looks distinctly unique. The Aria Carbon for MC20 introduces a roof scoop, integrated into the carbon and just in front of the brilliant engine cover adorning the Maserati logo.
The MC20 is visually brilliant, a poster car for the relaunch that Maserati are embarking on with a design that sits well placed in the supercar world against the likes of the Lamborghini Huracan and Ferrari F8 Tributo (despite the power gap). The competition in this arena in 2022 are masters of all trades. Powerful, performance driven, useable on a daily basis and aggressive by nature.
The Aria Carbon for MC20 dials up the intensity a few notches and as custom kits go, 7designhouse have done a fantastic job.
