Are 911's boring? TechArt beg to differ: GTStreet R

The Porsche 911 Turbo S is the gentleman's sports car, the everyday supercar, a debate amongst enthusiasts that will continual to rumble. Sports car or supercar?

The argument won't be solved in 5 minutes but if you want some firepower towards the supercar side of the argument, look no further than TechArt.

TechArt is a German tuning house specialising in Porsche modifications and the TechArt GTStreet R is amongst the pinnacle of Porsche automotive tuning!

The TechArt GTStreet R is based on the 911 Turbo S, which itself boasts 640bhp. The tune comes with a power upgrade offering 2 options, a cool 60 bhp increase to 700bhp and a full fat 800bhp upgrade with an increase to a 217mph top speed! Still digging your heels in about this being a sportscar?

The GT Street R embarks on a mission to make the Turbo S, famed for being an understated daily super sports car (see what I did there), far more aggressive, more bold and more loud. The GT Street R by all accounts is not looking to fly under the radar, redesigned bodykit, plenty of carbon and a power upgrade all work towards creating this monster.

Starting with the front, TechArt have completely redesigned the frunk, building a carbon aero front hood, contrasted with a white stipe through the middle and GTStreet R decals. The carbon hood comes branded with TechArt logos, introducing grooves designed to operate like airducts and direct airflow.

A TechArt branded front lip is added to the front bumper, finished in carbon fibre and adorned with a yellow stripe consistent with the R emblem. As far as modifications go, recreating the front lip is a must and the changes help reinvigorate the vanilla design made by Porsche.

Carbon fibre louvres have now been woven into the front quarter, sat flush above the now carbon wheel arch. GTStreet R emblems are tactically dotted around the vehicle and the offset of carbon and white paintwork does a fantastic job of drawing the eye. TechArt have gone on a journey to not only make the stock Turbo S more aggressive but also more "special".

The carbon fibre wing has seen a complete rework from stock. Larger, more pronounced and with a design more akin to a GT3 race series car, the new wing now appears less integrated when compared to the regular Turbo S. The contrast of the carbon fibre and paintwork presents a more elongated appearance, also matching with a plethora of carbon plastered around the GTStreet R.

The wing is just as active as the Turbo S but this time appearing far more dynamic.

As with most of the GTStreet R, the rear has taken a real transformation. Gone is the plain, colour matched bumper and in comes a carbon fibre rear diffuser and satin black finished bumper, working hand in hand with the overall paintwork.

The wheels have taken a change as well... TechArt Formula VI forged wheels replace the stock option with an unconventional design that really stands out.

The TechArt GTStreet R has the mandate to the make the Turbo S more special, more unique, more aggressive and more like a supercar. By all accounts it succeeds in doing so. The age old debate will continue to rumble, is the Porsche 911 Turbo S a sportscar or a supercar?

Well... this isn't a 911 Turbo S anymore is it...
